Alberta Zero Emission Truck Electrification Collaboration (AZETEC)

AZETEC is an industry-led initiative dedicated to reducing emissions from Canada’s heavy-duty transport sector. To achieve this goal, AZETEC will integrate heavy-duty hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV) onto Alberta highways to pilot hydrogen as a clean alternative to diesel freight transportation. AMTA is collaborating with leading to design and build two, hydrogen FCEV Class-8 trucks. The FCEVs will have a range of 600 km, support Canadian weights of 63,500 kilograms, and provide 18-months of on-road data on Alberta’s QEII Highway, between Edmonton and Calgary. These on-road demonstrations will help identify industry barriers and strategies (including revised training to ensure safety) that will play an integral role in advancing Canada’s 2050 net-zero emissions goals.
